This month has offered a couple of exciting events for Kam3D, including the opportunity to work with a local artist to print some of his designs. Casey Koyczan contacted us the week leading up to an exhibition he was putting together at Kamloops Art Gallery, where he wanted to include some 3D models of the designs he created. Check out his work at The Cube downtown, read more on the KAG website: https://kag.bc.ca/all-exhibitions/dream-nate, or visit Casey's Instragram page @caseykoyczanart.
Most of the models he had designed were very challenging to 3D print, with overhangs, small features, and thin walls. A good amount of support material was needed on both the "Glasses" and "Picnic Table" models shown below, which can sometimes cause print failures. This was a tight deadline for us, so it was crucial that each part completed successfully the on the first try - no easy feat considering these challenging models! Luck was with us on this print job, and the models came out really well!
In order to get this models done in time, we had to employ our most recent printer acquisition, a very fast QIDI Plus 4, which allowed us to complete the large format "Towers" model, as well as the picnic table in record time. The printer is not fully set-up yet, but it will greatly boost Kam3D's capabilities, for both speed, and material options. Look forward to the upcoming blog post about the printer once everything has been tuned!
